This is an expressionist oil landscape painting that is part of a series called Colour Theories. These works were created using a palette knife to introduce colour and texture that embody my emotional response to the landscape rather than a literal representation.

In this series of paintings, the landscapes have been simplified, allowing the colours and textures to speak in place of drawing and detail. Since I started to simplify shape and form in my paintings, I feel more of a connection to both the landscape and indeed the painting; all superfluous detail has been eliminated and only my connection and response to place are left. I feel these paintings are my authentic and instinctive reaction to my environment.
