Once a Beauty

This oil painting is from a series on rural farm buildings in West Cork, Ireland. I am surrounded by dairy farms and have been painting vernacular buildings in my townland and beyond for the past three years. In this series of oil paintings, the buildings are isolated in composition without the presence of people, vehicles or trees, the sky colours are inventions and cloudless, creating atmosphere and mood.This is a social archive of a lifestyle and infrastructure that may disappear in the future.

This whole collection of paintings, both landscapes and farm buildings, investigate isolation, peace, a changing and perhaps disappearing landscape.
